  • Joseph Lum, SEnior Pastor

    Joe was born and raised in Seattle, was saved by the Lord Jesus from his sins at a young age, and called to the ministry after his studies at the UW (BS Electrical Engineering, 1992). He was ordained in 1998, educated at The Master’s Seminary (Master of Divinity, 1995), and Dallas Theological Seminary (Master of Sacred Theology 1998; Doctor of Ministry 2005 in Biblical Counseling). He assisted in the planting of Living Hope Bible Church, has served there in various roles since 1995 and as the senior pastor since 2001. He enjoys spending time with his family, fellowship with other believers, worshiping the Lord, home projects, working out, and has been very involved in short-term missions often with a focus on training pastors (Cambodia, India, Philippines, Uganda, Mexico, & Honduras). He served for four years as a board member of Action International Ministries, a mission agency reaching the neediest people in the world with the Gospel. He is the co-contributor to the following books: “The Deity of Christ,” Ch. 8 in Preach Christ, CGM Publishers, 2016; and “Homosexuality, Marriage, and the Bible” Ch. 1 & 2 in Homosexuality, Gay Marriage and The Bible, CGM Publishers, 2015. His favorite scriptures include Ecclesiastes 12:13, Acts 20:24, 2 Timothy 2:15, and 2:24. 

  • stephen duwe, minister of student and children's ministries

    After growing up near Poulsbo, WA, Stephen moved to Los Angeles to study accounting at The Master's College. It was at college that Christ beautifully transformed his childhood religion into saving faith and a real walk with Him. After school he worked as an auditor for two years, during which God called him to prepare for the ministry. He is a graduate of The Master's Seminary (Master of Divinity, 2016). Stephen joined LHBC in June, 2016, and oversees the youth and children ministry departments. He is married to Veronica and they both enjoy discipling and caring for students. They are also big fans of tennis, hiking, and South American food. They have two children, Oliver and Mabel.

  • henry chen, elder

    Henry is the husband of Theresa, and the father of Caleb, Nathan, and Abigail. They are from Toronto, Canada but have made WA their home since 2001. Henry has degrees in Kinesiology (BSc) and Systems Design Engineering (MASc) and works in the field of human-computer interaction. In middle school, he accepted Christ after many years of hearing the gospel from a faithful Sunday school teacher. He currently provides key leadership in the Children's Ministry and the Youth Sunday School program. Besides spending time with his family, Henry loves to read and often finds himself working through several books at a time.

  • barry martin, elder

    Barry was born in California and relocated to Washington in 1973 with his wife Margaret, one daughter and twin sons. He was saved in 1984 at the age of 40 and is presently retired. He loves serving at Living Hope Bible Church and enjoys outdoor activities. 

  • ted way, elder

    Ted is passionate about youth/college ministry and currently serves as a college group leader. He was born in Taiwan, went to elementary school in Tucson, AZ, and then went back to Taiwan for middle and high school, where he accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. After receiving his PhD in biomedical engineering from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, he and his wife Alice moved to Seattle in 2008, where he now works as a program manager at Microsoft. He and his wife enjoy spending time with their daughter and son in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

  • daniel mar, deacon

    Daniel was born and raised in Washington as the middle child of five homeschooled siblings, graduated from the University of Washington, and works as a research scientist for UW Medicine. He was saved at a young age and has grown up attending Living Hope Bible Church. He is grateful to God for the faithful teaching, family atmosphere, and opportunities to serve at LHBC. His hobbies include playing sports (especially ultimate frisbee), following all things sci fi, and spending time with friends.

  • tom mar, deacon

    Tom was born and raised in Sacramento, California and moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington Dental School in 1977. He met Yvonne at the UW and came to faith in Jesus Christ in 1978. Tom and Yvonne married a year after their graduation and have been blessed with five children, a son-in-law and daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. Tom and his family had been members of the core team that the Lord used to start the ministry which is now Living Hope Bible Church. 

  • Mike Nelson, Deacon

    Mike has lived in the Seattle area all his life (except for college years). He was afraid to die until friends lead him to Jesus in college. Now with the assurance of eternal life, he has committed his life to Him. With a degree in electrical engineering, Mike has worked for over 35 years in the technology field. Mike and his wife, Nobi, have been blessed with four sons. Since Mike likes to eat he complements that with being active, golfing with the boys or running.

  • carrie duwe, deaconess

    Carrie was raised in S. California, and moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington where she graduated. In her mid-twenties, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Carrie is married to Jim, and has three children, Sara, Stephen, and Joey. She homeschooled their children who now are grown, married, and starting their own families. She enjoys serving God, studying the Bible, being with family and friends, remodeling houses, and sewing.

  • Yvonne Mar, deaconess

    Yvonne was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Hawaii during her junior year in high school. She met her husband Tom at the University of Washington. They have five grown children and two grandchildren. Yvonne was saved in 1978 during a youth group meeting when the Holy Spirit convicted her heart through verses in the Book of Romans.

  • Vicki Miyatake, deaconess

    Vicki was born & raised in Washington State. She is a graduate from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Textile Design. She works for her husband, David, who is a dentist in Maple Valley, WA. She accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in 1992. David and Vicki have one daughter, Barbara. Vicki's interests are studying God's Word, spending time with family & friends, running, hiking & watching football, particularly the Seahawks & Huskies!!! 

  • Nobi Nelson, Deaconess

    Nobi was born and raised in Japan of Christian parents who followed God's calling to serve the elderly there. As a middle schooler, coming to realize her sinfulness, she repented and gave her life to her Savior and Lord. She studied Social Work at the University of Washington. She and her husband, Mike, have home schooled their four boys, three of which have left the nest. Being the only female in the house, she enjoys spending time with ladies of all ages. She also enjoys watching movies based on historical events and playing games with her family.

  • Esther Chan, Deaconess

    Esther was born and raised in Hong Kong, but came to Seattle in 1987. At age six she was introduced to the gospel and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior. As an adult, she worked as an Oncology Certified Nurse. As a nurse, she has seen many individuals battle through one of the toughest times in their lives. She was encouraged to see that those who believed in the LORD were never afraid of death. She says, “Throughout the last 61 years God has been always with me. Even at times when I was so weak, but with God's amazing Grace, he always helps me to stand firm again and again.

  • Callie Ann Lum, Church Administrative Assistant

    A native Washingtonian, Callie was introduced to Christ at a young age but did not become a committed Christian until high school. Callie and her sister were home educated by their parents. After graduation, Callie chose to attend The Master’s University to take Bible classes and pre-requisite courses for her major, nursing. When she’s not studying, Callie enjoys cooking, reading and hiking. Callie joined Living Hope Bible Church as the Administrative Assistant in February of 2017.

  • Wendy Mar, Church Administrative Assistant

    Originally from San Francisco, CA, Wendy came up to Seattle to attend the University of Washington. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administrations and stayed in the Pacific Northwest. Wendy accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at age 7 at VBS and reaffirmed her faith in high school. She enjoys spending time with her husband and four kids. She was part of the core team that led to what is now Living Hope Bible Church and has been an Administrative Assistant since November, 2017.
